Free Kanban board online: start without paying
A free Kanban board visualizes work in columns (To do → In progress → Done) with cards moving as work advances.
Who is it for? Product, support, marketing, or IT teams that want clearer flow without heavy software.
With Nexa Scrumban, Kanban is included in a free project management tool — WIP limits, drag & drop, no user cap.
Anatomy of a useful Kanban board
An effective board is not just digital sticky notes. Each column represents a step in the value stream, not a vague admin status. Cards carry a deliverable unit (ticket, user story, customer request) with an owner and ideally a target date.
- Columns: 4–6 max at first.
- WIP limits: cap per column to finish before starting more.
- Pull policy: pull the next card when capacity allows.
Free Kanban vs Trello vs Scrumban tool
| Need | Typical option |
|---|---|
| Simple personal board | Free Trello, Notion board — enough. |
| Team 5–15, Scrumban flow | Nexa Scrumban: Kanban + backlog + Gantt + analytics, $0. |
| Enterprise, heavy workflows | Jira — often paid beyond small teams. |
Common mistakes
- Columns without WIP limits → invisible overload.
- Oversized cards → split into smaller tasks.
- No backlog prioritization → the board becomes a catch-all.
